On last night's premiere of Dancing with the Stars, it was a refreshing change of pace that there were no clear dancing professionals among the cast. With the years before, it was pretty obvious that Buzz Aldrin wouldn't prevail over Pussycat Dolls singer/dancer Nicole Scherzinger. Or that Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey would slaughter the competition. But this season, there's nary a dancer among the cast. Most everyone is starting on an even playing field… this could get interesting.
On the bottom of the totem pole sits Loveline host Psycho Mike Catherwood, who failed to impress with his partner Lacey Schwimmer. They scored an abysmal 13 out of 30.
Hugh Hefner's former flame, Kendra Wilkinson said that all her experience dancing at the clubs was going to be her advantage. We at Bodog Sportsbook were excited by the sound of this and gave her the best odds to win. But, however, Kendra's, mediocre effort wasn't as Charlie Sheen would call a winning performance. On the upside, the judges liked Kendra and she has a boatload of potential. She scored an 18 out of 30.
“I’m going to turn all those years of club dancing into elegant ballroom dancing,” and “[my dance] is hot. Not club hot, but classy hot, ” Wilkinson said.
Bodog Sportsbook hit the nail on the head when they pegged Karate Kid star Ralph Macchio as among their favorites. Macchio, (who is almost 50! Yes, you're old) and his partner Karina Smirnoff danced one of the most graceful foxtrots ever. Wax on. Wax off.
'You are a great stonking hit,' exclaimed judge Bruno Tonioli after the Foxtrot.
For his efforts, Macchio was put at the top of the leaderboard with 24 points.
The evening's biggest surprise was 60-year-old former Cheers star Kirstie Alley, who with her partner Maskim Chmerkovskiy, delivered a powerful Cha Cha. Alley, who had struggled with her weight for years, was one of the most energetic performers of the night.
"Your foot placement was the best of the night,' Bruno told her Alley.
"Unbelievable!" Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. "It had sizzle."
Think you know who will take home the glitterball trophy? Aside from betting on the Dancing with the Stars winner, you can also put money on whether or not Karate Kid Ralph Macchio will incorporate his famous Crane Pose in one of his dances!
