Las Vegas NCAA Picks: Purdue Boilermakers at Ohio State Buckeyes
Tuesday, February 07, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
The Ohio State Buckeyes might only be the third-ranked team in the country, but the Buckeyes have been making a strong case that they are indeed the nation's No. 1 team.
Ohio State has won five straight games, including three against ranked opponents, with four of those wins coming by 15 or more.
The most recent win, a 58-52 road victory at Wisconsin, helped the Buckeyes improve to 5-2 against ranked opponents. Purdue Boilermakers, which has lost three of its last four games, is 3-2 against Ohio State in the last five meetings.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Buckeyes listed as 14-point favorites versus the Boilermakers.
Purdue Boilermakers (15-8): Purdue suffered a bit of a scare late in Saturday's 78-61 home loss to Indiana. Robbie Hummel, the team's leading scorer who missed last season with a torn ACL in his right knee, crashed to the floor and came up limping. However, he played out the final few minutes and said afterward that he was fine. Losing Hummel would have been a crushing blow to a Boilermakers team that has lost considerable ground in the Big Ten standings. Purdue started 4-2 and was second in the conference, but is now tied for sixth with Illinois at 5-5.
Ohio State Buckeyes (20-3): At 8-2 in Big Ten play, the Buckeyes hold a one-game lead over second-place Michigan State. Ohio State still has two games against the Spartans on the schedule, but in the meantime, a home loss against an unranked opponent seems unlikely. The Buckeyes are a perfect 16-0 at Value City Arena and have won all but one game by 15 or more. That includes a 22-point rout of No. 9 Duke in late November. Last year, Ohio State defeated Purdue 87-64 at home.
1. Purdue has a Big Ten-best 29 true road wins since the 2007-08 season.
2. Ohio State has won 38 straight home games. It hasn’t lost since Feb. 17, 2010, when Purdue won 60-57.
3. Jared Sullinger averages 17.9 points and 9.1 rebounds and has recorded 10 double-doubles.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Buckeyes 71, Boilermakers 59.
