NBA Betting Odds: Knicks Futures Up after Carmelo Anthony Trade

While New York Knicks fans wipe tears of joy from their faces after the Carmelo Anthony trade, the Bodog Sportsbook already futures up to reflect the big move.
The New York Knicks now have 25-1 odds to win the 2011 NBA Championship and 15-1 odds to win the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets chances of taking the 2011 title are at 100-1.
Obviously Melo will make an impact as a Knick, but it remains to be seen whether it will do more than improve ticket sales this season. The Knicks gave away young scorers in Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov to get Anthony’s services, essentially gutting their roster for a new one. It may take some time for the Melo and likely Knick starter Chauncey Billups to adjust to coach Mike D’Antoni’s fun-and-gun style.
Anthony’s impact will likely be felt next season, when the Knicks have the ability to make more free agent signings and bring the depth they need to take on the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics in the East.
There’s also the chance of Chris Paul or Deron Williams becoming available in the 2012 season which would definitely give their futures odds a shot in the arm.
The Denver Nuggets do play tonight and with all players involved in this deal likely missing, have been listed as 1-point underdogs at home. New York plays Milwaukee on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. It remains to be seen whether Anthony will play.
